OUR IMPACT REPORT: HOW WE ARE PLAYING OUR FULL PART IN TACKLING CLIMATE CHANGE

The Manchester Climate Change Partnership and Agency’s latest Impact Report demonstrates how we are working together to help Manchester tackle the climate crisis.

The 2022 Update to the Manchester Climate Change Framework was an urgent call to action for everyone in Manchester to play their full part in tackling the climate crisis and help the city meet its ambition of reaching zero carbon by 2038.

Our latest Impact Report (2022/23) captures how, as a Partnership and Agency, we are playing our full part; not only setting science-based targets and reporting on Manchester’s progress towards zero carbon, but also catalysing and accelerating action at pace and scale across the city and supporting other cities around the world to do the same.

The report demonstrates how we bring together the expertise and influence of the 24 members of the Partnership, representing 80 organisations and 45,000 employees across 15 different sectors, to help tackle some of the city’s biggest challenges in the face of climate change. It also outlines how we disseminate learning and provide technical advice, as well as help position Manchester as a global climate change leader.

In 2022 Manchester became one of 122 cities globally to achieve an ‘A-list’ rating from CDP, recognised for taking bold leadership on environmental action and transparency. Manchester’s current A-list status is a testament to the action already being taken throughout the city and is a challenge for everyone to do more.

To help inspire further action, our latest Impact Report also showcases 19 examples of climate change best practice from across the Partnership, from solar panels to sustainable procurement, energy efficiency, sustainable building design, electric vehicles, and blue and green infrastructure, which can be replicated across the city.

Some of our key achievements between March 2022 and April 2023 include:

  • 373 climate reduction actions taken by the Partnership.

  • 6,000 Carbon Literate residents.

  • 4,700 individuals engaged in climate action.

  • 29 new organisations involved in Partnership initiatives.

  • £2.7m grant funding secured.

  • 27 programmes and initiatives led or supported by the Partnership.

  • £200,000 invested in communities.

  • 100% Partnership members committed to reach net zero carbon.
