WE’RE REDUCING

WASTE

We're reducing waste by helping communities to reuse and repair their stuff

Manchester’s In Our Nature programme is stepping up for zero carbon by working with communities across the city to help people reduce their waste.

From repair events to sewing workshops, clothes swaps and cooking classes, Manchester’s communities are making the most of their stuff!

There are lots of ways that Manchester is stepping up for zero carbon already, but as a city we are not currently on track. It’s up to all of us to play our part to create a greener, fairer, healthier city where everyone can thrive.

STEP UP AND SEE WHAT YOU CAN DO

WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO REPAIR AND REUSE?

Choosing to repair and reuse your belongings, instead of simply throwing them away, means that less items end up in landfill and less new items need to be created in their place.

HOW DOES REPAIRING AND REUSING HELP PEOPLE AND THE PLANET?

There’s a lot more to repair and reuse than people think. Extending the life of our belongings helps keep them out of landfill for longer and keeps our streets cleaner. It also minimises the presence, pollution, and production of electronic waste – also known as ‘e-waste’.

Since e-waste releases harmful toxins, having less of it around decreases health issues like lung and liver damage. By reducing the amount of stuff we produce, reuse and repair activities help lower carbon emissions, energy consumption, and pollution.
