WE’RE RETROFITTING

THE CITY’S HOMES

We're retrofitting homes and slashing energy bills

Registered housing providers in Manchester are stepping up for zero carbon by retrofitting nearly 3,000 homes so far, with over 14,000 low carbon measures, saving over 20 million kWh thanks to funding secured through the UK Government's Social Housing Decarbonisation Fund.

By embracing retrofit solutions, we’re not just reducing our carbon footprint; we're also revolutionising the way our homes function, benefiting Manchester’s residents by making homes warmer and cheaper to heat.

There are lots of ways that Manchester is stepping up for zero carbon already, but as a city we are not currently on track. It’s up to all of us to play our part to create a greener, fairer, healthier city where everyone can thrive.

STEP UP AND SEE WHAT YOU CAN DO

WHAT IS RETROFIT?

Retrofitting involves making our existing buildings more energy efficient. To do this, buildings need to be better insulated, rely less on gas for heating, and use more energy efficient appliances and equipment.

HOW DOES RETROFIT HELP PEOPLE AND THE PLANET?

Our latest Emissions Report found that buildings are one of the largest sources of Manchester’s direct energy-related emissions, accounting for 76% of our total emissions in 2021.

Retrofitting reduces carbon emissions, and minimises energy consumption and waste, creating a greener city. Retroffiting also creates more green jobs, help us gain more comfortable living spaces and save money too.
